Porto Rico Importing Co.

The scent of freshly roasted beans fills the air when you enter this West Village shop. The shelves are filled with jars and sacks filled with dark brown beans, along with coffee-making equipment, tea accessories and sugar.

Sey Coffee

Sey Coffee, a coffee roaster and shop is located along Grattan Street, in Morgantown. This neighborhood, located in Brooklyn's Bushwick district is situated on Grattan Street. Co-founders Tobin Polk and Lance Schnorenberg, both 33, started roasting in a fourth-floor loft around the corner from their new store in 2011 under the name Lofted Coffee (with local clients including Greenpoint's Budin and Soho cart service Peddler).

Sey's preference for micro-lots or even whole harvests from single farmers has been praised by knowledgeable New York City coffee aficionados. In the past they made a six-bag micro-lot purchase of Danilo Dones Sitio Catucai 785 from Brazil's Espirito Santo region. The beans were picked at their peak ripeness and steamed to remove any imperfections. They were then dried on the farm after a 36-hour dry fermentation. The result is a cup with hints of berry melon and lemongrass.

Sey's goal of holistically improving the well-being of staff, customers, and growers extends beyond the store. It makes use of biodegradable disposables and composts, preventing waste from the landfill and converting it into agents that lower harmful greenhouse gases and nourish soil. It also eliminates gratuity, which puts the baristas in a position to help sustain their livelihoods and encourage them to focus on their profession.

La Cabra

La Cabra, a modern specialty-coffee company, was founded in Aarhus in Denmark in 2012. The company started with a modest store and a committed staff. Their innovative and honest approach to providing an outstanding coffee experience has earned them a loyal fan base not just in their hometown and across the globe.

La Carba has a rigorous method of identifying their ideal beans, going through hundreds of different lots every year to locate the ones that are perfect for their tastes. Then, they roast them in a very light style and dial the roast to create their desired flavor profile. This gives their coffees a brighter taste and clarity.

The East Village store, which was opened in October of last year and has been praised by critics for its top-quality pour-overs as well as its baked goods, overseen and managed by Jared Sexton. He previously worked at Bien Cuit, Dominique Ansel and various coffee establishments.

The shop is equipped with the La Marzocco modbar and the cups and plates are designed by Wurtz ceramics in Horsens, which is a father-son studio. In a recent Q&A session with Atlanta Coffee Shops, General Manager Ian Walla reveals that La Cabra serves approximately 250 different coffees a year, and typically has seven or eight coffees available at any given time.

The Roasting Plant Coffee

The Roasting Plant is the only multi-unit retailer of coffee which roasts on-site and brews according to your preferences, with each cup of coffee being roasted and brewed according to your preferences in less than minutes. It searches the globe for the highest-grade specialty beans that are directly sourced, giving customers the choice and quality.

Their roaster on site is a fluid bed device, that is distinct from the classic drum machines used in UK coffee shops. The beans are blown into a heated box with high-velocity, circulating air. This keeps the beans suspended and allows for a consistent roasting rate.

I tried the Sumatran coffee and it was very rich with an enveloping mouthfeel, dark chocolate from the fragrance was present. The coffee began to cool as you sip delicate citrus flavours fruit were evident.

The best decaf coffee beans is whisked to the Eversys super-automatic brewing equipment and brewed to your specification within less than a minute. Customers can choose from nine single origins and various blends.

Parlor Coffee was founded in 2012 in a barbershop with a single group espresso machine. It has since evolved into a burgeoning coffee roastery, with beans that can be found in great cafes and restaurants as well as home brewers across the city. Parlor is committed to sourcing the highest-quality beans all over the world, each of which has endured a laborious journey before reaching the roasters.

The owners, who self-described as "passionate about their craft and believe that good coffee should be available to everyone," have created a space that is down-to earth and has chalkboards, compost bins and up-cycled items, and simple decor.

They roast their own blends (there were six at the time I was there) and single-origins. However, coffee Bean Shop they also have cuppings on Sundays that are open to the public. Imagine it as a tasting room where you can smell and taste the beans that are ground. They are a mix of earthy and chocolate (one was similar to tomato!). They're a bit away from the main roads, but it's worth the trip.coffee-masters-triple-certified-arabica-
